DOPE card
Elevation and wind holds by distance for one rifle and one load, with the zero, velocity and conditions they were built for. Two cut-out cards fit a stock or a scope cap.
- Use one card per rifle and load. Change the ammo lot and you may need new data.
- Start with calculated data from a ballistic solver using your own chronographed velocity, then shoot it and mark rows Confirmed.
- Write down the conditions you trued in. Re-true when temperature or density altitude is far from them.
- Holds are for a level shot, from the reticle center. On a second-focal-plane scope they're only true at the calibrated magnification.
- Wind column is a 10 mph full-value wind. Scale it: 5 mph is half, 15 mph is 1.5×.

Holds by distance holds in your units from the reticle center, level shot
| Range (yd / m) | Elev hold | Elev clicks | Wind 10 mph full value | Wind 5 mph | Time of flight (s) | Velocity (fps) | Calc / confirmed | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Wind value: 3 and 9 o’clock = full value. 1:30, 4:30, 7:30 and 10:30 ≈ 0.7. 12 and 6 = none. Wind hold scales with speed: 5 mph is half the 10 mph hold, 15 mph is 1.5×.
Mark rows Confirmed only after you’ve shot them. Calculated data is a starting point; re-true when conditions change a lot. SFP: holds are true only at the calibrated magnification.
